Souji stopped, his eyes wide as saucers. ”….you….”
He was going to die.
He knew he was going to die, and he wanted to make sure that precious girl was taken care of. Souji didn’t know what to do, or how to react. He took a breath, closing his eyes. He understood the gravity.
It must’ve taken him a long time to make this decision.
"….right." He hated accepting it.
It was like accepting his friend’s death.
His hands were shaking as he felt himself gather tears in his eyes. This man had only cried when he had received news of Kondo-san’s death. And now…his own.
"She won’t understand when that day comes Sou-chan. She thinks I’m getting better." He laughed and smiled a bit. "She has her mother’s spirit when it comes to my illness and recovery." He paused. "And you being gentle and caring is exactly what she will need at the time and the rest of her life. She needs a father who will actually be able to care for her. Unlike me." Self hatred came back. It was a typical occurrence these days. "A father who has since day one has given his daughter a false since of hope…" He muttered as he laid back against his pillow and glared at the ceiling.
He looked at his other and sighed. ”….i’ll take care of her, but you’ve got to stop this. You’re gonna have to see how she sees you. Please…” He got closer, taking the other’s hand. ”Do me that favor. You have time still with her. Try not to see with your eyes… try to see with hers.”
He at least wanted him to see himself with more than just hatred.
Souji smiled and gripped the man’s hand tightly. “I’ll try…” He told his friend before feeling his chest beginning to burn once again.
Just then his little girl was back and running up to him from the backyard. “Daddy! Daddy! Look I finally made one!” She cheered while climbing up onto the porch and over to his side. In her hands was a flower crown that looked partially done. She had put so mucheffort into what her father had taught her.
Souji slowly struggled to sit back up for her. “I see. It looks pretty good. Who is it for?” He asked.
"Daddy its for you." She told him while placing it on his head. "This is how you got mommy to marry you. So I wanted to do it for you." She told him.
"Marry me huh?" He chuckled as feelings began to swell in his heart and mind. "Well I’m sure out there is a guy just like your daddy who was made just for you." He told her while patting her head. "Even though your mother isn’t here anymore doesn’t mean that daddy does’t still belong to her." He said softly while placing a kiss on her forehead. "Daddy has an extra special love set aside for you, Tamako."
